Congratulations! The time has come to pull the pin on getting your home a brand-new garage door! But where do you even start? Are you googling garage door repairs near me? Typically, a customer will come in to pick out a door with the help of us to answer any questions. Once you choose your dream door, we will get a time scheduled to come to your home to confirm measurements to get the correct door ordered. If it is new construction and the structure is not yet built, we are unable to do a field verification. This gets a little tricky as we have to make sure the door size is correct by inspecting plans, talking with the contractor, and doing a site check once the structure is up.
Due to extended lead times, there is a new process in place. When doors only took a couple of weeks to get, we were able to site measure and make sure everything was correct prior to order. Now, once the order is placed, we follow its process with the manufacturer and keep the customer advised of anticipated delivery, back-order issues etc. Once we have received the product, you will be contacted for scheduling! When scheduling we do our best to accommodate our clients. In case of urgency, we schedule installation the day of ordering. Otherwise, we work with you once the door arrives to schedule an installation.
Average wait time for Clopay is 17-21 weeks depending on the model. CHI has made great strides with their lead times and are currently running 4-8 weeks depending on the model. Customers can now get a door a lot quicker – especially in emergency situations where you need that door promptly.
Prepping Your Garage for Installation
To ensure a smooth, efficient and timely install, it is in your best interest to have the area where we need to work completely cleared out. Refer to our ‘Spring Cleaning’ article here - https://www.sdoverheaddoors.com/news/article/2022-garage-spring-cleaning-542/ - to take advantage of a clean garage space! It is helpful to take a look above and see where all of the tracks, and springs are going to be and keep in mind that we will be using ladders and also placing the doors on sawhorses in the garage to prepare the sections for installation. We need space to maneuver those sections around as well as move our ladders freely.
Do I need to be home during installation?
Wondering if you need to set time aside to be home while we install? That is completely up to you as our client and the homeowner. Some like to be there for the entire process and some leave a door unlocked or give us a code and we just go do our thing. It really is what you’re comfortable with! Our first goal is to ensure you have no problems after installation but of course the question will arise; “what if I run into an issue after installation?” No matter how frustrated you become at the problem, please do not try to handle it yourself. Instead, call us right away so we can come resolve the issues. All of our installations come with a warranty. If you are choosing a Clopay door you have an option to add their Gold Bar Lifetime Warranty to your order which offers you the opportunity to upgrade your hardware and torsion spring warranty on your residential garage door.
Most jobs can be completed in a day! If you’re getting a door opener installed with your garage door it would approximately take ½ to 2/3rds of the day. If it is a multiple door job and operator we try and schedule enough guys to complete the project in a day but it could run over into the next, depending on the size of the project.
Now that you know what to be expecting, contact us at South Dakota Overhead Doors to start on the first step to the process! We are here to answer any further questions and to steer you in the right direction!
